1. Christmas Morning Cuddle
The best part of any holiday tradition is the moment you open your eyes, knowing you have a full day of presents, movies, hot chocolate, and pajamas ahead of you. There’s an excitement in the air, snow might be falling, and the dinner has yet to be burnt. However, after you rip through your gifts and scarf your plate of food, the magic seems to abruptly sail away. The holidays only come once a year, so why not make them last? Prolong the celebration as long as you can and spend an extra hour or so on the couch with your pup. This lets the anticipation of the day build up so you can start the day well-rested and full of holiday spirit.
2. Before Guests Arrive
Hosting holiday celebrations can be a stressful time. The clock is ticking, and you have approximately 2 hours until your friends, family, coworkers, and in-laws descend on your home. What do you do with your remaining time? Wrap a few more presents? Fix the ornaments on the tree? Throw the last batch of gingerbread in the oven? The answer is none of the above. Use this remaining time to conserve your energy--you’re going to need it. There’s nothing wrong with tidying up the house before guests arrive, but use this time to curl up for a good power nap. If you’re refreshed and rejuvenated before your great aunt Helen arrives, you’ll be able to get through your holiday festivities and last-minute chores with ease. Either that or get a little help from your glass of eggnog.
3. Food Coma
Now for the best nap of them all! It’s a holiday tradition to fall asleep on the couch in front of the TV after all the excitement winds down. The only negative that comes from that is a kink in your neck and a puddle of drool that forms on your couch cushions. After eating enough ham and potatoes to sustain a small country, it makes perfect sense to go into hibernation, where you can catch the best z’s--your recliner. There’s nothing like pulling that lever and leaning back for a deep snooze. That way you can wake up well-rested and ready for dessert!
4. Boxing Day Knockout
December 26--possibly the most depressing day of the year. There is no real structure to this day--just an endless cycle of picking at leftovers and eating all the remaining candy canes. The presents are gone, the tree is being taken down, and it’s a hollow, empty feeling. You might gather your family around for a friendly game of Monopoly, but that can most certainly end with someone flipping the game board and storming off. Before your holiday season comes to an abrupt end, the best thing to do is gather on the sofa and watch a soothing, heartwarming movie to conclude your celebration. Try watching A Christmas Story one last time until next year--you can dream of opening up your own Red Ryder just like little Ralphie.
