4K Gaming Guide

by Waverly Wilde

1.  A 4K Compatible System

The first thing you need to figure out if you want to play video games in 4K is what 4K compatible system you want to use. The original versions of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One can’t play games at 4K, so you’ll need and updated PS4 Pro, Xbox One X, or Xbox One S.

Nintendo fans are out of luck -- the Switch doesn’t support 4K. And of course, there’s always the PC route too, but we’re sticking to the console/TV combo for this article.

2. A 4K TV

A 4K ready console is only half the battle. You’ll also need a 4K TV to see everything. The good news is that 4K TVs have come down in price quite a bit, and there are tons of options.

Not sure which 4K TV to go with? Give us a call -- we’ll help you find the perfect 4K TV for gaming in whatever size -- or price point -- you are looking for.

3. Don’t Forget the Accessories

You’ve got the system. You’ve got the TV. Are you forgetting anything?

Ah yes! HDMI cables. You don’t need to go crazy here -- the HDMI cables you were using with your older systems will probably work. But if you need some more -- or longer ones -- we can help you out.

4. Oh yeah, 4K Games

And last but not least -- the 4K games! Not all games offer 4K as an option, so you’ll need to do a little research. We’ve taken care of that for you though! That’s what friends are for.

Games like “Assassin’s Creed Odyssey,” “Assassin’s Creed Origins,” “Death Stranding,” “The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim,” “Monster Hunter World,” “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt,” “Gears 5,” “Madden 20,” “Resident Evil 7,” and “Rocket League” offer 4K visuals, console depending, of course. That’s something else to keep an eye on: Just because a game can run in 4K on one system doesn’t mean it can do that on another, so double check your purchases!

And there we go! Everything you need to get gaming in 4K. If you have any other questions -- or are just looking for some great recommendations on 4K tvs -- give us a call! We’ll help you upgrade your game in no time.
